Racing Metro 92 will start off their HCup season tonight against the last edition's unfortunate finalist, ASM Clermont-Auvergne. A french touch in this European competition which could already be determinant for those two clubs' European future. (Crédit : Julien Poupart // Attitude Rugby).
This is what makes this event so charming: even before the pools' toss, we already know that this competition will give us an enticing programm. Again this season, Racing Metro 92 will have the privilege to be confronted to the English Harlequins, the Welsh Scarlets and French Clermont. ASM, first opponent of the francilian club on Sunday in Colombes. A tough pool which did not spare the Ciel et Blanc who are stepping towards their first Day of HCup with this sweet sensation that France and Europe will still be mixed, against an opponent they will be confronted to at least four times this season. Twice in TOP 14 and twice in HCup. Anyway, after three participations in a row in HCup, with a last edition full of hope despite the elimination in the pool phases, Racing starts up this new european season with ambitious thoughts.
As this week was marked by the come back in the Hauts-de-Seine from the IV Nations of KRuger, Hernandez and Imhoff, the rest of the Ciel et Blanc squad will them to taste the rugby international level, a flavor which those three just came back from with their national team. And a few weeks from the automn tour and VI Nations, nothing coulb be better than good club performances to give the opportunity to francilians to wear the national jersey. International center Fabrice Estebanez knows it and is all excited about it. "It's the ultimate level of European rugby, the best continental squads compete in it. HCup confrontations are high in intensity, tough oppositions... Every rugby player wishes to participate in the event for its high level rugby. It is different than the national championship. It is a sort mid level between TOP 14 and the international rugby. Those who will have the chance to start this tournament will have to expect a tough time".
