Racing Metro 92 has done it again! Victorious last year at Mayol, the Ciel et Blanc has once again taken the win on Sunday in the Day 15 clash of TOP 14, but this they made it at home in its overcrowded stade Yves-du-Manoir (14-3). A success acheived thanks to strength and courage, rewarded by Marc Andreu's try and Jonathan Sexton's boot. (Credit : Fabrice Aygalenq // Attitude Rugby).
Marc Andreu said it earlier this week in press conference. The Racing defense is getting better and better and growing out of each rugby meeting, while promising at the same time that the offensive end will show up good sequences soon. As the symbol, the small Ciel et Blanc winger came to be the only try scorer of the match, benefiting from being one man up after Toulon’s Bakkies Botha received a yellow card. The South-African second rower’s bad move on Eddy Ben Arous had heavy consequences on the game, at a time when the Racing lead looked narrower than ever. “We made the break when we were one man up, while originally Toulon had the opportunity to level up the score at 6-6, enjoys Laurent Labit at the end of the match. But the penalty turned against them and we benefitted from it.” By a Marc Andreu try by the side line, who concretized many Ciel et Blanc offensive assaults and an ultimate penalty scored by Jonathan Sexton.
« Today, we have borne up! »
The Andreu confessions on the Racing defense seemed wise and correct, as Toulon lead many dangerous offensive plays. One, in particular could have well gone all the way, if it wasn’t for Maxime Machenaud associated to Juandre Kruger, the late savers of the Toulon’s side line run, tackling him out of the field limits. Nonetheless, this late rescue didn’t stop the Rouge et Noir from continuing attacking, without though crossing the in-goal line. Racing stood still. “We have a defense that holds up and we rely on it”, smiles Fabrice Estebanez. Beyond a remarkable defense, the Ciel et Blanc stayed on their last week’s good momentum. “In engagement, intensity, accuracy, respect of game instructions, lists Coach Labit, it’s probably our trigger match. We said it: we feel better. But we were getting impatient of not showing during a whole eighty minutes. It is the most successful match. Before it, we only managed to propose wise performances for a short length of time. Today, we have borne up!”
Francilians promised themselves to end this year in a good way. They stuck to their words and repeated last year’s trick in Mayol against Toulon which was the first Racing victim in 2013. RCT will also remain as the last team defeated by Racing. A symbol! But after believing repeatedly this season, to trigger success, Racingmen stays focus on their end of season goal, enjoying their victory without though over-reacting. “Will this match count for the team’s future? We said the same the thing after Clermont and Montpellier…, remembers Estebanez. We then fell back in our mistakes. We will enjoy this nice win but we must remain clear-headed. But still, it is a great pride to have won tonight!”
