As an appetiser for the derby at Jean-Bouin on Saturday, a few hours earlier at La Faisanderie the Golden Oldies of Ciel et Blanc Rugby will take on their counterparts from Stade Français.
It’s a tradition which started three years ago : every year the former players of Racing regularly organise social games “against the clubs with whom we have the most affinities,” adds Patrick Serrière.
President of the association, the former captain of the championship-winning team in 1990 recalls that the honours were shared last year against Stade Français. But that for the return game at Colombes, the Ciel et Blanc veterans pulled out all the stops. “We ‘humiliated’ them, six tries to one, and this year I’ve got a feeling that they are looking for revenge,” grins Patrick.
Accordingly, to stifle the vehemence of the opposition, Jean-Pierre Genet the Ciel et Blanc hooker from the two finals in 1987 and 1990, will once again pull on his boots. It is even rumoured that the pairing of Serrière – Tachdjian, the legendary second row that won the Bouclier de Brennus at the Parc des Princes 24 years ago, will once again lock the scrum.
To ensure that these festivities take place in the best possible spirit, the game will be refereed by Geofrey Abadie, the only player in history to have won the French championship wearing the colours of both these teams.
Kick off is at 10AM on Saturday, at La Faisanderie ground in the Parc de Saint-Cloud. Come and support them!
