Finn Russell - " J'ai hâte d'y être "

De passage à Paris, Finn Russell a rendu visite aux coaches du Racing 92. Club pour lequel il évoluera la saison prochaine. Découvrez ses premières réactions pour son arrivée région parisienne.

Bravo, d’abord, pour cette victoire avec l’Ecosse contre l’Australie…

C’était un match incroyable pour nous. Les gars et moi avons joué notre meilleur rugby, dans la lignée de ce que nous avions fait face aux All Blacks. C’était vraiment exceptionnel. De plus l’atmosphère à Murrayfield est vraiment unique, c’est un stade super, j’adore jouer là-bas. Toute cette semaine a été magique.

Pourquoi as-tu choisi le Racing ?

J’ai eu la chance de jouer 6 saisons à Glasgow. Mais pour moi, pour ma progression, je sentais qu’il était temps de changer d’environnement. Comme tout joueur de rugby mon objectif est de gagner, je veux remporter des titres avec le Racing. C’est un club déterminé à jouer le plus de finales possibles et à les gagner… Et qui a des chances de le faire ! C’est vraiment mon but principal, et le Racing a tout le potentiel pour obtenir la Champions Cup ou le TOP 14 ! J’ai hâte de les aider à gagner. C’est un grand club, je suis impatient de m’installer et de jouer avec mes nouveaux coéquipiers ainsi que de travailler avec les coaches et tout le staff.

Tu vas succéder à Dan Carter, avec Pat Lambie, qu’en penses-tu ? C’est un défi pour toi ?

Oui c’est sûr. J’ai affronté Dan quelques fois et je sais qu’il est un des meilleurs joueurs du monde aujourd’hui encore. Il a vraiment fait de grandes choses ici, je sens bien l’amour que le club lui porte. Je n’ai pas vraiment songé au départ de Dan, je pensais que peut-être il serait encore présent, j’aurai appris beaucoup de lui… Pour moi, de venir jouer et d’être au même poste que Pat pour lui succéder va être un beau défi, vraiment enrichissant. J’ai vraiment hâte !

Que penses-tu des installations ?

C’est un environnement de dingue, il y a tout ici ! La cryo, les massages… les installations sont incroyables ! J’ai hâte d’y être et de tout tester ! J’ai aussi visité la U Arena, qui est vraiment impressionnante, cela va être génial d’y jouer.

Tu connais des mots en français ?

« Bonjour, ça va » (en français dans l’itw) les plus faciles ! Je prends des cours afin d’en apprendre le plus possible avant d’arriver.

First of all, congratulation on your big win against Australia this weekend! How do you feel about this match?

It was an amazing game for us you know. When you know how tough it’s gonna be when you enter the game, the boys and I performed as well as we can, we kind of kept going after last week against the Blacks. It was very special. Moreover, the atmosphere in Murrayfield was amazing. That’s a great place to play, I love playing there.  The last weekend has been the best….

Why did you choose Racing?

I was glad to play 6 seasons in Glasgow, but for me, I feel I wanted to change, to kind of freshing things up a little bit. Like any rugby player, my goal is to win trophies; I want to win titles with Racing 92.
Racing is a club that wants to play the finals and that is determined to win, and has chances to! That’s definitely a goal here and it’s definitely a team that got the potential to win the European Cup or TOP 14. I’m looking forward to help them win. I think Racing’s a great club. I can’t wait to get across and play with the boys here. The’re also great coaches and staff I’m looking forward to work with.

You’ll succeed to DC with Pat Lambie, what do you think about that? It’s tough and exciting?

Definitely, I’ve put up with Dan a couple times and he’s obviously one of the best players to play the game.
He’s done so well over here. I can actually see that the club loves him. And for me to come across and be “against” Pat Lambie, that’ll be tough but very fulfilling.
But I haven’t put to much thoughts in his departure and I thought he was still gonna be here maybe, I’d have learned so much from him if he was still here! I can’t wait to come across and fill his shoes!

What do you think about the facilities here in Racing?

It’s an amazing set because here you’ve got everything: cryo chambers, massage doctor etc… the facilities are outstanding. I’m looking forward to get across and test everything! I’ve just visited the new stadium, the U Arena, it’s impressing, can’t wait to play there!

Do you already know some words in French?

“Bonjour, ça va” the easy ones! I’m getting lessons just now so I’m trying to learn as much as I can before I get across. I’m looking forward to actually learn the language.
